Mary Kelly and Sita (Saranporn Tawemongkonchai)
discussing plans for the Intergenerational Village. Sita,
a key component
to the project, is a remarkable Thai-Nepalese woman of
great integrity and vision. Moved by the needs of Thailand's
children and the elderly, Sita plans to dedicate the rest
of her life to the task of supervising and managing this
endeavor. Amicus is deeply moved by her incredible spirit
of service. |
Our latest
project in Thailand is
the development and construction of an intergenerational
village which will
serve, support and sustain Thailand's impoverished elderly
as well as children who have no families.
There exist very few social services
in Thailand. There
are essentially no safety nets to meet the basic needs of
the elderly who are alone, nor to care for orphaned children.
Being
part of a family is not only critical for survival, it
is the heart of what makes us
human. The people of Thailand
put family foremost. How difficult it is for the elderly
who have lost their families, or for the children who
never
had one. The idea of this intergenerational village is
to bring
these two groups together, to heal one another to be
a family to each other.
