Bhutan
Women's Project- What could be better than
supporting cultural institutions that provide women a basic
education, while passing on the spiritual traditions of their
culture.
Say Yes for
Children
School
for Orphans-Imagine a child too poor
to afford even a free education, unable to pay the
meager cost of books and supplies. Imagine being this poor and
having no parents. The Simtokha Orphanage takes care of
these children. Even more, it provides a unique blend of
traditional spiritual education with a modern secular
curriculum.
Protecting
Endangered Cultures
Bhutan
Cultural Center- A highly
focused endeavor that will help to preserve Bhutan’s precious
qualities before they are lost to the world
forever.
Preserving the
Arts
Performing
Arts Center of Bhutan- The country of
Bhutan is under siege. On the battlefield is an ancient wisdom
culture colliding with "Do You Want to Be a Millionaire". The
“Performing Arts Center of Bhutan” will be a living
institution, playing a key role in preserving Bhutan’s culture
by offering a contemporary outlet for performances of
traditional music, dance, theater, film, educational programs,
and other special events.
Historic
Preservation
Bhutan
Sewala Sanctuary- If Bhutan had
a "center of peace" it might be Sewala Sanctuary. This famous
monastic university has produced most of the Je Khenpos—the
spiritual heads of all Bhutan. Yet these ancient painted walls
are caving in, supported by beams that strain to prevent young
monks from being crushed.
Thailand
Education Projects
School
in Esan -Thanks to
Matthew Kelly, one person with a vision and perseverance, over
500 children in Thailand’s poorest community now have a
school. Completely funded by Project Director Matthew Kelly,
the Esan Children’s School is now complete! The King of
Thailand was so impressed with the project that he donated a
room full of computers!
Holders of the
Flame
Tashigang
School and Sanctuary -The name
Lopen Kadobrings hushed tones, smiles and
affirmative nods—this is the real thing. One of the greatest
living masters in Bhutan, Lopen Kado lives in a forest
hermitage high up in the mountains. There he looks after the
education of many young children, and older more accomplished
spiritual practitioners, who live in the mountain’s solitude
practicing for the benefit of all beings. Together we can
preserve the heart of what makes Bhutan truly Bhutan -
including these sacred and authentic teachings passed down by
a few rare individuals.
Even Helpers
Need a Helping Hand
The
Amicus Fund-While every Amicusproject touches the lives of children, families and
communities, Amicus itself would literally close its doors
tomorrow if no volunteers showed up in the morning (or wee
hours of the night!).
